Clinical pathology is the laboratory evaluation of blood, fluids from the body or body tissues in order to identify existing disease.
Common laboratory tests include blood chemistries (to detect organ function), complete blood counts (to detect infection or anaemia), blood clotting times, urinalysis, faecal tests, biopsy examination, cultures and infectious disease testing.
Our veterinary clinic is now equipped with an in-house laboratory service that allows our veterinarians to perform many of these diagnostic tests in the clinic which allows us to have test results on the same day and thus achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis for your pet. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment.
Some more specialised tests may need to be performed by an external veterinary laboratory.
Our in-house laboratory can provide results the same day, sometimes within minutes.
Specialised testing may take 12-24 hours for blood results or up to 14 days for biopsy results, depending on the nature of the test being performed.
Once we have received the results we will contact you to discuss these results. We always try to contact you as soon as possible, so make sure your contact numbers are correct. If you have not had your pet's results in the expected time frame, please call us as maybe our contact information is wrong.
